Deputy Governor in charge of the Social Sector, Green Development, and Air and Environmental Pollution O.Nominchimeg met with the UNICEF Representative to Mongolia Evariste Kouassi-Komlan, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Governor’s Office of the Capital City and UNICEF. Within the framework of the Memorandum, the parties will cooperate in the areas of supporting the mental health of teachers, employees, and students of general education schools and kindergartens, protecting children from violence, exploitation, harassment, bullying, human rights violations and harmful habits in digital and other environments, and supporting the nutrition of school meals.
Deputy Governor O.Nominchimeg said, "We are planning to implement a project to improve the nutrition of school meals in the capital city. Moreover, mental health is a facing problem for students, and the children expressed that they would like to have a professional psychologist at school and a club where they can discuss their problems. Twenty percent of general education schools in the capital city do not have psychologists. Therefore, in the next year, it would be pleasant to cooperate in the direction of supporting children's mental health, providing a healthy and pleasant environment for learning, and implementing projects to empower psychologists.”
UNICEF Representative to Mongolia Evariste Kouassi-Komlan emphasized that since the mental health problems of children are increasing in Ulaanbaatar, it is appropriate to implement a program aimed at this.
UNICEF is conducting 6-7 surveys at the national level, including health, food and nutrition surveys of students. In this context, students' harmful habits, violence, and bullying are also being studied. Therefore, it was said that the results of the research can be shared and used in projects.
