The Governor's Office of the Capital city will organize the "Danshig Naadam - Khuree tsam 2023" religious and cultural festival on August 5, 6 at the Khui Doloon Khudag in cooperation with the Ulaanbaatar city Tourism Department and Gandantegchinlen Monastery. Danshig Naadam is a unique festival that preserves Mongolian culture, religious rituals and heritage, and has a great importance in developing tourism and attracting tourists.
The festival is held on the first weekend of August every year. During the event, monks compete in knowledge, and balin-oil-making competitions. In addition, many religious and cultural events, such as Danshig procession, Ochirvaani ritual, Tsam performance (a religious masked dance) will be held. Moreover, wrestling, horse race, ankle bone shooting, Dembee competition, horse circus, and archery competition will be held alongside unveiling an exhibition of small and medium-sized enterprises’ products, ger town presenting traditions, painting, photography, and ancient Mongolian food fair.
Danshig Naadam began in 1639 when the Öndör Gegeen Zanabazar was declared as first Jebtsundamba Khutuktu, the Buddhist Supreme Leader of the Mongolia and has became a major religious and cultural event in Mongolia. The main feature of the festival is the Tsam performance, which is included in the dance of the five subjects of Buddhism.
