International running competition “UB marathon 2023” was held on June 3. In this regard, the day was “Car-free Day” between 06:00 and 18:00. More than 20,000 people from 30 countries have registered for the marathon.

"UB marathon 2023” aims to develop running sports in Mongolia, to activate runners, beginners, and to support citizens’ initiatives to participate in daily physical activity. This year, it was organized as a day, covering a wide range and increased the participation of the private sector. Moreover, a marathon for people with disabilities was added to the half and full marathons.

Participants ran 1.5 km, 5 km, 10 km, 21 km and 42 km. In 2014, 16,839 people, 18,085 people in 2015, 25,000 in 2016, 30,000 in 2017 and 2018 participated in the competition. From 2019, in addition to the citizens of the capital city, it was successfully organized involving more than 32,000 people, including foreign citizens living and working in Mongolia, running enthusiasts from neighboring countries, and well-known athletes from many countries, continents, and the world. In 2020 and 2021, the marathon was canceled due to the global pandemic, and in 2022, 23,690 people from 29 countries participated.
