Ulaanbaatar city is home to more than 1.6 million people. Thus, it is very important to provide citizens with healthy, safe, and quality food, as well as to increase production, investment, productivity, and innovation in this field. There are three main issues facing the field of food production: shortages caused by seasonal and external factors, rising prices, and food security. However, there is enough opportunity to solve these issues with rational and research-based decisions in economics, law, and policy.

Within the framework of the "Food Supply and Security" national movement, a number of measures are planned to be implemented at the capital city level in 2022-2027 through the cooperation of the public and private sectors. Specifically, within the framework of the goal of increasing the food supply, capital city authorities are working on three goals: to increase the domestic production of food products, to introduce an optimal financial and investment system, and to develop the logistics network of food products.

Regarding the policy adopted to improve food supply and safety and provide the citizens of the capital city with the main food products, the Mayor of Ulaanbaatar D.Sumiyabazar said, "Basic policy to support domestic food production and address the economic, legal, and other issues facing them has started to be implemented. For instance, it is definitely important to create a favorable environment for investment. If the appropriate mechanisms are used and the foundation is properly laid, the private sector will be able to start production, supply food products, and localize innovation”.

The policy aims to support food producers in providing healthy and quality food to the citizens of Ulaanbaatar city. By supporting them, enterprises will be freed from the burden of loans and will receive long-term, and stable investments. Furthermore, the activities of stakeholders in the food chain will contribute to the sustainable development of the industry. it is planned to focus on stopping seasonal price inflation and shortages and providing citizens with healthy and safe food products by improving public-private partnership. The successful implementation of these goals will not only increase jobs in the food, agriculture, and light industry sectors but also increase domestic production and reduce imports. Also, there are many advantages for a city including increased tax revenue, improved education of the population about food security, and positive impact on public health.
