"Car-Free Day" under the motto "Together for the risk-free and healthy environment” took place on a large scale in the capital city. As part of the "Car-Free Day", citizens gathered and walked with their families at the Sukhbaatar Square and the main streets of the city and participated in sports events.
At the opening of the "Car-Free Day", Chairman of the National Committee on Traffic Congestion J.Sukhbaatar said, "The Government of Mongolia is paying attention to the issues of centralization and traffic congestion. In order to reduce traffic congestion, we focus on making the capital city more accessible to public transport and walking and cycling. As a member of the Cabinet, my position is aimed at making Ulaanbaatar city a citizen-friendly and healthy city. Of the 2,800,000 registered daily traffic in the capital city, 1,800,000 of them are private vehicles. Moreover, more than 685,000 people use public transport and about 300,000 citizens are pedestrians.
Deputy Governor in charge of the social sector, green development, and air and environmental pollution Z.Tumurtumuu said,
-Ulaanbaatar city has been organizing "Car-Free Day" since 2009. In the past two years, the event was temporarily suspended due to the pandemic. But this year, it is being celebrated widely. Many organizations in the social sector are promoting their activities, and citizens are receiving services.
IT WOULD BE NICE TO ORGANIZE "CAR-FREE DAYS" 2-3 TIMES A YEAR
Citizens expressed their opinions on car-free day.
"The previous car-free day was rainy and cold. The weather is nice today. There is no special area for roller skating. Therefore, it becomes possible to travel freely with roller skates on "Car-Free Day"
"This year’s "Car-Free Day" is going very well. It would be nice to celebrate the day 2-3 times a year in the warm season”
"When I was young, there were almost no cars and it was not difficult to walk down the street. It's nice to see a lot of young people taking part in the day. There used to be several car-free streets, but now there are almost none. It would be better if there were more car-free streets nowadays”
"The Car-Free Day became an event that is looked forward to by our family. It's nice to let my kids play freely."

The city of Ulaanbaatar has been celebrating "Car-Free Day" since 2009, and citizens were happy that the weather was exceptionally warm this year.
