Results of LEEAP project handed over

The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) has handed over the results of the Local Energy Efficiency Action Plan (LEEAP) in the construction sector in Ulaanbaatar and the Energy Efficient Building Refurbishment in Mongolia Project. The project has many benefits, including saving energy, reducing air pollution, extending the lifespan of buildings, and ensuring a comfortable living environment for citizens.

In his opening remarks delivered at the handover ceremony, Senior Adviser in charge of Administration and Legal Affairs of the Capital City Governor D.Munkh-Erdene said “Within the framework of the Energy Efficiency Project, GIZ has implemented activities to renovate 22 schools and kindergartens in Ulaanbaatar's ger areas, as well as a number of activities to strengthen energy efficiency planning. At the policy level, it is important to note that the development of “LEEAP in the construction sector in Ulaanbaatar” has been an effective action. In the future, based on the good experience gained under the project, we believe that there is a broad opportunity to continue investing openly and rational and implement energy-saving and efficiency projects”.

During the ceremony, GIZ Project Director Dr. Dunja Hoffmann stressed the importance of reducing heat loss in buildings, especially schools and kindergartens, and reducing energy consumption. She also emphasized that the project has been successfully implemented since 2018, and the project results have been officially handed over.

Project manager S.Tuvshinkhuu said that the energy consumption of prefabricated apartments, schools, and kindergartens is 2-3 times higher than today’s requirements. Therefore, the possibility of meeting the standards, renovating and constructing new buildings and facilities to save energy was introduced. Reducing heat loss of buildings is also significant to extend their lifespan”.

Within the framework of the Energy Efficiency Project, GIZ has implemented activities to renovate 22 schools and kindergartens in Ulaanbaatar's ger areas, create a budget handbook, digital platform, and investment guide, and increase the capacity of the staff. In addition, NAMA, a prefabricated housing heat loss reduction project, is scheduled to commence in August.
