The public transportation fleet has not been renovated for the last 10 years. Therefore, a decision was made to carry out the renovation of the capital city's public transport fleet in two stages in 2022-2024. In its framework, 91 buses were imported. Officials led by the Prime Minister of Mongolia L.Oyun-Erdene and Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar D.Sumiyabazar became acquainted with the newly imported buses that will be put into public transport service in the near future.
Of the buses imported as part of the fleet renovation, 61 are regular buses, 10 are double-decker buses with electric motors, and 20 of them are school buses.
Prime Minister L.Oyun-Erdene said, “Investment to reduce traffic congestion in the capital city was limited to about MNT 40 billion. The government has decided to increase this investment tenfold. Thus, MNT 420 billion will be allocated annually to reduce traffic congestion in Ulaanbaatar. The renovation of the capital city's public transport fleet will be implemented in two stages by 2024. As part of this renovation, children's and public transport buses have been brought. More buses will arrive before September 1. Wheelchair-accessible buses have also been imported. Public transportation should be the safest, most comfortable, and fastest mean of transportation."
Mayor of Ulaanbaatar D.Sumiyabazar added, “More than 50 percent of the population lives in the capital city, making the city a major social and economic center. Therefore, the capital city authorities are working to correct the mistakes of the past 30 years, improve the legal environment, expand the economy, and carry out human resource-based reforms. Within the framework of public transportation fleet renovation, a total of about 1,500 new buses will be added. Initially, about 300 buses will be imported by August 25 this year. Also, proper route planning and reengineering will be done. A number of measures will be taken including the works to increase road access and install RFID traffic sensors. Thus, only public transport buses and children's buses will travel on the first lane of the road.
Imported double-decker buses have an electric motor and capacity of 70 seats, equipped with a wheelchair section, an automatic fire extinguisher, and a control screen.
