The "New Ulaanbaatar West Terminal" project will be implemented in accordance with the general development plan of Ulaanbaatar city until 2040 and on the principle of collaboration between the government and the private sector. This project consists of three main projects: the "West Terminal" complex, a 5.5 km long eco-boulevard road with a bridge over the Tuul River, and People's Park.
The project to expand the city of Ulaanbaatar to the west will cover a total area of about 10,000 hectares and will be implemented across the capital city’s Songinokhairkhan, Bayangol, and Khan-Uul districts. The built-up area of the capital city covers an area of about 1,990 hectares, causing density and traffic congestion. Therefore, the experts emphasize that the implementation of the "New Ulaanbaatar West Terminal" project is important.
The capital city officials worked at the park to be built as part of the above-mentioned project and got acquainted with the route of the vertical axis road to be built from the Dragon intersection to the Nukht intersection.
Governor of the capital city and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar D.Sumiyabazar:
- Construction works are being intensified in the capital city districts, and green parks are being built. The President of Mongolia, U. Khurelsukh, announced Mongolia's launch of a campaign to plant one billion trees by 2030 at the UN General Assembly. As part of this, green areas will be built comprehensively. People's Park with green facilities will be built on a total of about 100 hectares. We are grateful for green building experts and dendrologists offering to participate in enhancing the appearance of our city, and we are confident that the initiative of the private sector will increase in the future. ‘The general development plan of Ulaanbaatar city until 2050’ will soon be submitted to the parliament.
It was planned that a total of 800,000 to 1 million people to live in an area of over 10,000 hectares including Yarmag, Nisekh, Sonsgolon, and Gurvaljin Bridge in the western part of the capital city, Unur District, and the foothills of Songinohairkhan Mountain from the 22iin tovchoo.
Today, we're getting acquainted with the vertical road alignment that will be the first step in the development of that new city. This road will affect reducing traffic congestion and decentralization. We are prioritizing the policy to support and cooperate with the private sector in the development of Ulaanbaatar city.
A 5.5 km road will be built at the initiative of the private sector. Furthermore, the construction site was chosen that will not disturb the land owned by enterprises as much as possible. General Director of "Dragon Holding" LLC S. Bayart:
- Ulaanbaatar has a lot of abandoned vacant areas. It is considered optimal to re-plan and develop vacant areas. Thus, the area around "Thermal Power Plant-3" and "Thermal Power Plant-4" is one of the most valuable places near the energy source. However, it was left behind due to a lack of infrastructure. Therefore, in order to deconcentrate the center of the city and reduce the traffic congestion of the Yarmag and Nisekh roads, our company is taking the initiative to build a vertical road as part of the social responsibility. We are grateful that the city authorities accepted our request.
The People's Park, which will occupy an area of more than 600 hectares across three districts, will have 10 parts, and the project will initially cover an area of 35.38 hectares. Each section will have an innovative landscape architecture solution. As for the "West Terminal" complex, the number of users of the Dragon Center can be increased to 50,000 from 10,000 to 50,000 per day.
