Sidewalks in 18 locations to be renovated

With the adoption of the Law on the Legal Status of the Capital City, the city’s financial independence has been ensured and the capital city and nine districts are now able to be developed socially and economically independent. In this regard, measures are being taken to reduce traffic congestion and decentralization, including repair of streets and roads, and the construction and expansion of new roads and bridges.

Thus, sidewalks in 18 locations of the capital city will be renovated to create safe conditions for citizens. Starting from May 25, sidewalks in 26th khoroo, Bayanzurkh District will be renovated within the period of a month. 13,000-square-meter sidewalk and bike path will be widened to 1.5-5 meters, and the surface, entrances, and driveway layout will be upgraded.

In this regard, Member of the Parliament B.Enkhbayar, Deputy head of the Capital City Road Development agency B.Odbayar gave information on the renovation of sidewalks and the current progress.

Member of the Parliament B.Enkhbayar highlighted “Relevant standards have to be adhered. The work is starting from the 26th khoroo of Bayanzurkh district. Sidewalks in other locations will be renovated in line with the same standards.”

It is necessary to have the sidewalk height to be no higher than 2.5 centimeters to make it accessible for the wheelchair users. Therefore, renovation of the sidewalks will create a favorable condition for the citizens to travel safely.

The sidewalk renovation will begin in the most populated and congested areas of the capital city, and will be carried out by Ulaanbaatar Road Maintenance Department.
