In the capital city, unauthorized objects built on public lands are being demolished and turned into green areas for recreation and leisure. Moreover, sports complexes will be built in nine districts. The first sports complex was opened in Chingeltei district.

Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar D.Sumiyabazar said, “Public sports must be developed from the ground up. We need to ensure public participation and create a large number of squares, green areas, and parks. Constructions of sports complexes in the capital city is being implemented in stages. A football pitch has been set up at the Sukhbaatar Square for a tournament. In general, Sukhbaatar Square should be such an environment where youth and children gather”.

More sports facilities are needed in order to encourage citizens to do sports. What measures are being taken in this regard?

-We are paying attention to demolishing unauthorized garages and facilities and creating a green and citizen-friendly environment. In addition to building sports complexes in each district, we are aiming to make 160 large and small sports fields available in the capital city, including football pitches and 3x3 basketball courts. Fifty percent of these will be implemented this year.

This year, several sports competitions, including a 3x3 basketball tournament named after the capital city's Governor, the UB cup, and Ulaanbaatar marathon is being hosted at the central square. This is a form of public sports development in Ulaanbaatar and a way to encourage people to lead a healthy lifestyle through sports. Deputy Governor of Ulaanbaatar in charge of Social Development and Education and Health Issues Z.Tumurtumuu shared his view on this.

He said, “People have already moved to a healthier lifestyle. As a result, the demand for gyms, sports complexes, and centers in Ulaanbaatar is growing. Recently, a sports complex was opened in Chingeltei district. Another one will be commissioned in Bayangol district soon. He said that if every district had a sports complex, people would learn how to exercise and protect their health, and many of them would have such a practice.

From February to June, gyms in 21 aimags and nine districts of the capital city will be open to the public free of charge from 06:30 AM to 07:30 AM. The city administration is working to carry out many activities that encourage citizens to live a sporty life. In addition, citizens are practicing a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, it was emphasized that mountain hiking routes and sports grounds are being created in each district.
