February 24 marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Japan. On the occasion of the anniversary, Governor of Tokyo Koike Yuriko sent a response letter to Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar Sumiyabazar Dolgorsuren, pledging her support to the expansion of cooperation between the two cities and the proposal for concluding a memorandum of understanding.
The letter reads:
“Dear Mayor Dolgorsuren,
Thank you very much for your kind letter on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Japan.
Tokyo and Ulaanbaatar have fostered exchanges in a variety of fields including the environment and sport. In this milestone year for our countries, Tokyo also hopes that the relations between our two cities will become even more productive, and supports your proposal for concluding a memorandum of understanding between Ulaanbaatar and Tokyo. Let us begin preparations for its signing by the end of this year.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is promoting sustainable recovery from the pandemic for the development of sustainable cities. We will be launching a new network of cities that endorse this concept. We certainly hope that Ulaanbaatar will also take part. Your continued cooperation would be highly appreciated.
Please accept my best wishes for your success and good health, and the further prosperity of the city of Ulaanbaatar.
Yours sincerely,
Koike Yuriko
Governor of Tokyo”
